I can hardly call myself a poet,
But I have managed to write at least this,
I thought: that’ll be done before you know it,
But the process was much more hit and miss,
So I soldiered on finding words and rhymes,
Matching ideas with words and back again,
Avoiding the poetic paradigms,
And trying to use just paper and pen,
I wasn’t sure about structure and form,
I wasn’t sure about pace and metre,
But slowly my words began to transform,
The whole thing began to sound much sweeter,
So maybe it’s true I’ve become a poet,
Like I’m a poet and I don’t know it.
